Having the love of your life break up with you and say you can still be friends is like having your dog die and your mom saying you can still keep it.
No, it’s like your mom having her daughter (you) choose new parents and you telling her that you’ll still come to her house for dinner sometimes and you’ll still invite her to your wedding when you get married.
Or it’s like your dog leaving you for your neighbor because your dog likes him/her more and then your mom telling you you can still pretend he’s your dog.
